LIVE IN GRATITUDE NOT WITH EXPECTATIONS

One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned in my life extends far beyond the walls of my acting career. This change in mindset and attitude has allowed me to find greater joy and peace in all that I do. And while this is an incredibly easy concept to understand, it takes real effort and time to effectively apply it to your life.

Having our expectations unfulfilled or not met is one of the most infuriating things in the world. Walking into any situation with expectations is a sure-fire way to set yourself up for disappointment at some level, whether these expectations were on yourself, someone else, or the universe itself.

When going into an audition, try replacing your expectations of nailing the audition to simply being grateful for the opportunity to read for the role. Trust me, this is way easier said then done and I know I lied to myself often during the first times I tried to convince myself I was replacing expectations with gratitude.

Trying to control our experiences or fighting for perfection are battles that can not be won and they will disappoint you most of the time.

You are a professional actor. You get to pursue your craft and your passion as your career. Maybe not exclusively right now, but you are on a path where this is a possibility. Be grateful. Enjoy the moments. These moments are the ones we will treasure most.
