Michael Coleman on Failure is an Illusion
Failure is only real if you decide to quit after falling. I am sure you’ve heard this a million times, from a million different people, but we truthfully do learn more from our falling down than we do from our successes.
In fact, Tony Robbins has gone so far as to say there is no such thing as success or failure, only results. I believe this to be true with all of my heart.
Fall down. Just get back up again. Fall down often. Take chances. Try things you know you can’t do. Try them repeatedly until you can do them. This is the actual secret to success that so many people have a hard time identifying. Habits are built from repeating something repeatedly until you reach or exceed the goals you’ve set. Set habits. Set them by falling, learning from the fall, and getting a little bit better every time you get up again.
Failure is impossible, if you refuse to quit.
Your success is inevitable if you refuse to fail.
Be aware of stasis. The inability or refusal to grow. If your career is suddenly stuck or stagnant, this may not be a reflection of failure so much as a self-imposed purgatory.
It’s not enough to just not quit when you fall. You must get up again and try again. If you are not where you want to be in your career, you need to keep training, you need to keep finding new levels.
And when you are where you want to be in your career, you still need to keep training, you still need to keep finding new levels.
In the wonderful words of Arthur Ashe Jr. “Success is a journey, not a destination.” And thus we must always be getting up again and be fearless when it comes to falling if we want to see continued growth and success.
